| WWF’s travelling Wetlands Nature Carnival in Lahore |
After holding a successful Carnival at Karachi, WWF-Pakistan on behalf of Pakistan Wetlands Programme organised a Wetlands Nature Carnival sponsored by Nestle Nido in Lahore on Sunday, 4th March 2007 at Ali Institute of Education, Ferozepur Road. Dr. Bashir Ahmad Wani, Inspector General Forests, Ministry of Environment, Government of Pakistan was the chief guest at the occasion.
Over 35 schools participated in the Carnival. The Carnival featured a Nature Exhibition of three-dimensional environmental displays created by students of various schools following different environmental themes including Marine Turtles and Dolphins, Relationship between poverty and Environment, Wise use of Wetlands and Wetlands and People. Lucky Draws were held at regular intervals. The stalls put up by schools included that of face painting, environmental games and snacks. Entertaining puppet and magic shows were performed all day. The Ministry of Environment’s Pakistan Wetlands Programme set up an information booth at the Carnival. Students were thrilled to receive posters of Trout fish, Fish of Pakistan and Wetlands and Fisheries Calendars.
The Wetlands Carnival provided a mix of educational, entertaining and promotional activities. Pakistan Wetlands Programme will soon hold a Nature Carnival in Islamabad and Faisalabad. A WWF spokesperson said that the Carnival “provided a platform for motivating young minds to care for marine environment and accordingly educate their families and friends about the importance of this valuable resource and associated biodiversity.”
