ACCA-WWF - Pakistan pledge to promote Environmental Reporting in Corporate Sector

ACCA-WWF - Pakistan Environmental Reporting Awards (PERA) were launched in 2001. These awards have now reached their fourth year and last year’s awards demonstrated their growing influence as the scheme was endorsed by the Ministry of Environment, Government of Pakistan and Global Compact Foundation Pakistan.

Launch of PERA 2005 was announced by the sponsors at Karachi Press Club on Monday September 5, in a press conference. Mr Hammad Naqi Khan, Director Fresh Water and Toxic Programme - WWF - Pakistan, and Ms. Afra Sajjad, Head of Policy Development ACCA Pakistan, represented their organisations.

For the last two years, trophies have been awarded to reporters in the following three categories:

Best Multinational Company Report
Best Local (listed) Company Report
Best Local (unlisted) Company Report

This year sponsor’s ACCA and WWF - Pakistan are introducing an 'EXCLUSIVE' category for the 'Best Environmental Report' in Textile Sector in Pakistan. This sector would cover the entire textile processing industries including garments.

“ACCA-WWF - Pakistan Environmental Reporting Awards have been instrumental in creating awareness in preparing environment reports. It has encouraged and provided a framework to the corporate sector of Pakistan to report their environmental activities in a formal manner and be acknowledged for their achievements,” said Afra Sajjad, Head of Policy Development, ACCA Pakistan.

“Environmental reporting is increasingly becoming a strong tool for companies to enhance their image as green industries and helping them demonstrate their corporate social responsibility in the business environment” said Hammad Naqi Khan, Director Fresh Water and Toxic Programme, WWF - Pakistan.

The deadline for submission is December 31, 2005 and the final award ceremony will be held in March 2006.
