WWF scientist wins Saarc Award 2002

A senior scientist of World Wide Fund for Nature – Pakistan, Dr. Masil Khan, who is working as Project Officer, Environmental Pollution Unit, has been bestowed with the prestigious South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Youth Award for 2002. The theme for this year was “Outstanding Contribution to Protect the Environment”. The award comprises a gold medal, a citation in English, and a cash prize worth $US 1500. Dr. Masil Khan has a doctorate in Impact of Sewage Sludge Borne Heavy Metals on Soil Microorganisms from the University of Wales Aberystwyth.
Dr. Khan will receive this award in a colourful award ceremony to be held during the 24th session of the SAARC Council of Ministers, which is expected to be held in Islamabad in early 2003 prior to the Twelfth SAARC Summit.
The SAARC Youth Award was established in 1996. The aim of the scheme is to provide recognition to outstanding young talent and to encourage the overall development of youth in the region. An award is made each year to a young person who has excelled in his/her particular field of activity.
