3rd Traveling Environmental Film Festival

The 3rd Traveling Environmental Film Festival concluded in all the major cities of the country, successfully raising the level on environmental issues to people from all walks of life. This festival is a regular event housed by TV center, communications division.
The environmental film festival, in collaboration with the Forum of Environmental Journalists, Pakistan, and TVE International first traveled to Karachi on the 25th-26th and later to Islamabad on the 30th-31st of October. Films produced in different countries highlighting environmental issues faced worldwide were screened to the viewers.
The festival is an excellent opportunity to install a feeling of responsibility towards nature conservation in the minds of people from all walks of life. Entry was free for everyone interested in coming to the festival, providing an enjoyable chance to learn about the threatened species and ecosystems around the globe. It received a commendable response in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad, as attendance on every day was enthusiastic.
Documentaries highlighting various environmental issues were screened to students from various government schools and colleges. The added treat this year included a documentary Khachwa Kahani based on the threats faced by marine turtles in Karachi, and a three minute programme I’m young too, featuring the plight of birds in Pakistan. Tyco’s Zoo based on the lives of animals in London Zoo, is another enjoyable film for school going children. Unnatural disasters, a series of Earth Reports showing how human economic activity is causing extreme weather conditions, also received applause from the public. Some of the films screened in the festival were in Urdu, to provide insight into diverse sections of society.
The festival in Lahore was attended by District Nazim, Amir Mehmood as the chief guest, and other distinguished guests present were Brig (Retd) Riaz Bashir, Secretary to the Punjab Government, Environment Protection Department Unit Ali Hassan Habib, Direct6or General WWF – P and journalists from various national newspapers. In Karachi, Lt Gen Tariq Waseem Ghazi, Corps Commander Sindh, inaugurated the festival, followed by a welcome speech by Deputy Director General WWF – Pakistan, Dr Ejaz Ahmad. Renowned educationalist and poet Mr Anwar Masood, opened the festival in Islamabad.
