This “Greening
the Head Office Initiative”
started in March 2003, when an introduction
to the staff was given on Environmental
Management Systems and ISO 14001
certification process. The EMS team
was established which developed
programs for solid waste reduction,
paper usage minimization, air and
noise emission monitoring of vehicles
and generator, fire hazard and efficient
energy consumption of the head office.
As a foremost step,
an Environmental Policy has been
developed in consultation with the
top management which will not only
be followed by the Head Office but
by WWF – P’s six regional
offices in the country as well to
start the Environmental Management
System (EMS) development procedure.
The procedures and work instructions
under EMS have been developed through
a mutual consultative process among
the WWF – P EMS team.
“This approach will lead to
considerable and continuous improvement
in both economic and environmental
performance through reduced waste,
improved understanding of procedures
and decreased costs”, remarked
Hammad Naqi Khan at the occasion.
SGS – International
was contracted as the certifying
body which carried out external
party audits and recommended the
WWF – P Head Office premises
for ISO 14001 certification. Like
all other certified companies WWF
– P will be audited every
six months by SGS - International.
WWF – P comes next to WWF
– Switzerland to be ISO 14001
certified.
