Minister of Environment visits WWF - Pakistan

LAHORE– Makhdoom Ashfaq Ahmed, Minister of Environment Punjab, visited the Head Office of WWF – Pakistan on December 26, 2005 to familiarise with the working of the WWF - Pakistan. Ali Hassan Habib, Director General WWF – Pakistan welcomed the honourable Minister and gave him an introductory presentation on WWF – Pakistan, its various on-going projects and what it stands for.

While addressing the gathering, Makhdoom Ashfaq Ahmed said, “The aim of EPD (Environmental Protection Department) and WWF – Pakistan is the same and both the departments can work together to save the precious natural resources of our country.” Ali Hassan Habib while speaking on the occasion requested the Minister of Environment to ensure the enforcement of EIA (Environment Impact Assessment) as any developmental project should not be initiated at the cost of damaging the natural resources. He also directed the Minister’s attention towards the on-going development work in Chumbi Surla, one of the only two Punjab’s National Parks, and requested the Ministry of Environment to insist on the EIA before further developmental work.


Different Heads of Department of WWF – Pakistan were also present on the occasion and had a discussion with the Minister of Environment on various environmental issues. The Minister was also given a round of the WWF – Pakistan Head Office.
