This is a letter that was sent by 'A nemeless pilot' of the Pakistan Army, who airlifted WWF - Pakistan Team in Machiara Village, to Ms Salma Omar, stationed at Head Office WWF – Pakistan, appreciating her and her team's concern and relief efforts for the earthquake affectees in Machiara National Park.

A tribute

Aslam-O-Alaikum.

Hope to find you in best of your spirits. You must be wondering who am I, so it would be appropriate if I introduce myself. I am an army Captain pilot, the one who dropped you at Machiara, Muzaffarabad, on October 19, and later led the sortie which recovered you people from the place.

In fact there is something I wanted to share with you. First, I want to apologise for the discomfort you people came across because of us being unable to recover you people the next day. I still feel burdened for it. But, as a matter of fact, I am not much to be blamed for it as I was directed to other operation soon after dropping you, and Major Tariq continued with the Machiara. The next day again I was assigned other area of operation and despite my efforts to direct other aircrafts to your area, no one managed to make it to your place as it was quite a tricky location.

On October 21 st I led the sortie which recovered you people. I think I made myself clear though I can't compensate for the agony you faced due to the delay. Secondly, I want to appreciate your concern for the suffering people, the way you were striving for doctors really moved us. And I feel no hesitation in admitting the fact that I am still unable to forget that twinkling sparkle in your eyes for the people. We are just performing our duty but its people like you who make the difference. It was really heartening to see people like you doing such a grand job.
