Conservation Approach

Any conservation will do well if people are involved. You can make a difference by joining WWF – Pakistan to save the Earth’s priceless natural resources for yourself and our coming generations.

WWF – Pakistan has been committed to saving wildlife species and their habitats and the promotion of nature conservation and environmental protection for sustainable development.

“Help Us In Saving Nature With People.”

In most of the projects, WWF – Pakistan extends support to local community initiatives. Thus our basic principles, advocacy, lobbying with excellence, partnership with local bodies and capacity building at all levels, ensure sustainability at the field and policy level, and continually evaluating our progress against the goals agreed during planning and review sessions.

All projects are put into action after thorough scientific research findings, using both qualitative and quantitative market research tools. Each project is headed by a team of technical coordinators and scientists, with a strong background in the area of concern.

Operations Methodology

WWF - Pakistan sees two main areas of transition: Helping develop conservation plans for the country’s most important ecological regions, and amalgamating the many discrete projects into a more holistic overall conservation programme.

WWF – P carries out it conservation activities by identification of priority areas of concern, based on preliminary research findings under our target driven programmes (forests, marine ecosystems, freshwater, species, toxics and climate change) that cover all the ways in which the natural environment is threatened. Projects are then developed keeping in mind several components.

For example under the freshwater and cotton initiative, a key project on promoting effective irrigation methods in combination with integrated pest management for cotton production is being carried out. Linkages we established with Common wealth Agriculture Bureau international,

Leadership for Environment and Development and Association of Certified Chartered Accountants. Model sites were established in Bahwalpur and Vehari, near Lahore. Field trials based on purely scientific research findings are carried out to assess impacts of various irrigation methods.

Like wise under the Wetlands Programme, various exploratory research work on marine ecosystem of the Makran coast was carried out to investigate remote high altitude wetlands.Extensive graphical digital maps and graphic material by WWF – P, Graphic Information Systems Lab were used.
