Earth Hour by WWF Pakistan
LAUNCH of Earth Hour 2010 for the first time in Pakistan
On Saturday, March 27 2010 at 8:30 pm for the first time, WWF Pakistan will take part in Earth Hour – the world’s largest global climate change initiative led by the World Wide Fund for Nature Global in 2008. By simply turning out all non-essential lighting for one hour – at our company buildings and in our own homes – we will join hundreds of millions of concerned citizens across the globe in showing the world we can work together to resolve the issue of global warming.
Earth Hour is a global WWF climate change initiative. Individuals, businesses, governments and communities are invited to turn out their lights for one hour on Saturday March 28, 2009 at 8:30 PM to show their support for action on climate change. The event began in Sydney in 2007, when 2 million people switched off their lights. In 2008, more than 50 million people around the globe participated. In 2009, Earth Hour aims to reach out to 1 billion people in 1,000 cities.
In past years 50 million people took part in the Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities, towns and municipalities in 88 countries officially switched off to show support for action on climate change, making Earth Hour 2009 the largest voluntary action in history and the world’s largest global climate change initiative.
Social media has proved it can be a powerful force for driving change in Pakistan and worldwide therefore with one month to go before the world switches off for Earth Hour 2010, WWF Pakistan is calling on the social media community to help this year’s campaign to reach out to people across Pakistan.
WWF Pakistan encourages you to take part in Earth Hour, which offers a great way to demonstrate that YOU care about the planet and wants to operate in a responsible way. We hope you’ll encourage your viewers, employees and suppliers to participate in this important and historic moment.
It is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community throughout the world. It is a call to stand up, to take responsibility, to get involved and show leadership towards a sustainable future.
WWF Pakistan wishes to encourage corporate partners and general public to participate in Earth Hour 2010 official launch 2010 and understand how we can reduce our environmental footprint and operate in ways that won’t deplete our world’s limited natural resources to the detriment of future generations.
Please send me complete detail of your activities to get them uploaded on WWF Global Earth Hour Website performance map.
