The Events during the hour include:

WWF Pakistan is buzzing with excitement and we are very proud to announce the record breaking Launch of Earth Hour Launch 2010 for the first time in Pakistan.
The Support for this unique initiative in Pakistan has come from all quarters, from media, corporate sector, civil society, academia and from the highest levels of both Federal and provincial Governments of Pakistan.

 

1. The Honorable President of Pakistan, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari has endorsed the official launch of Earth Hour, furthermore President House has led by example through participating in Earth Hour by switching off the lights at the official residence of the Honorable President.

2.The Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has led the official launch on March 26th with his official statement from the Prime Minister House Islamabad. The Honorable Prime Minister will be lighting the first candle at the Governor House Lahore at 8:30PM tonight.

3.The Honorable Minister for Environment, Mr. Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi has officially launched the Earth Hour 2010 Launch on March 26th. The lights of the National Assembly will be switched off and the Honorable Federal Minister will be lighting candles with his fellow Parliamentarians and WWF Pakistan Go Green Parliamentarian Group members. Furthermore switching off will take place at the government secretariats all over Pakistan. All the concerned Ministries and Provincial Governments will observe the Earth Hour 2010.

4. The Honorable Federal Minister of Petroleum, Mr. Syed Naveed Qamar has also confirmed his official support for the official launch of Earth Hour 2010. The Minister’s office has taken the lead and sent official encouragement letters to his officers and oil companies across the country to observe the Earth Hour 2010.

5. The Honorable Federal Minister for Environment will the be lighting candles at the International Islamic University with the Environmental Club Students and faculty to show solidarity towards energy conservation and combating climate change.
The Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif is the official Ambassador of the Earth Hour 2010 from Punjab Government. The Punjab Provincial Government has officially endorsed the Earth Hour Launch 2010. The lights of the Chief Minister House Lahore, Chief Minister Secretariat and Punjab Assembly will be switched off.

6.The Provincial Parliamentarians of Punjab Assembly will be lighting candles with the instrumental of the National Anthem playing in the background in front of the Punjab Assembly to show their commitment towards energy conservation, climate change and Global warming. The Mall Road Traders Association under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Punjab has volunteered to participate in the Earth Hour 2010 Launch by switching off the lights of the entire Mall Road.

7. The Sindh Assembly has also pledged their support in Earth Hour 2010 Launch. The lights of Sindh Assembly will be switched off at 8:30pm tonight and all the parliamentarians will be lighting candles in front of Sindh Assembly.

8. The Chairman CDA, Mr. Imtiaz Inyyat Elahi has endorsed the Earth Hour Launch 2010 and will observe the Earth Hour 2010 at CDA secretariat and all CDA offcies across the country.

9 Iconic brands from the hospitality sector have pledged their support, their inclusion was particularly challenging, as their core service levels and convenience to their patrons is greatly compromised by switching off their power. The participants including Pearl Continental, Marriott, Avari International , Sheraton Karachi, and Zouk Karachi have also pledged their support to the official Launch of Earth Hour 2010. The switching off the lights will take place at all the properties across the country along with candle lit dinners and candle lighting ceremony by the staff and guests during the Earth Hour 2010.
