Do you like animals, but don't have the time or space to keep a pet?

The answer to your dilemma may be Lahore Zoo's Animal Adoption scheme. Under this scheme, individuals or organisations can enjoy the rewards and responsibilities of 'adopting' a zoo animal. The scheme is designed to maximise the involvement of the participatants, so that they can find out more about animals that are an important part of our society.

This exciting scheme is just one of the activities that make up The Lahore Zoo Project. The Lahore Zoo, conveniently situated in the heart of the capital city of the Punjab, was established in 1872. Today it has 839 animals, with 120 different species from Pakistan and other countries. Unfortunately these creatures are not appreciated by many of the visitors who come to the Zoo expecting the animals to provide them with a show. With financial help from Beaconhouse School Systems, WWF-P started the 'Lahore Zoo Project' in 1998.
Since then many visitors, especially children, have been able to find out more about the fascinating creatures which share our planet, and gain knowledge about conservation, ecology and other related fields. Every day, a WWF - Pakistan Education Officer provides educational talks on wildlife for about 50-60 students from 2-3 schools. Both primary and secondary school students can have fun while learning about biodiversity and developing a sense of affiliation with wildlife and nature. As part of the schools program, children are provided with specially prepared worksheets and booklets.
