The world leading conservation organization starts its work in Pakistan science 1970. It was the late 80s that the first formal project of environmental education started within aim to save nature and natural resources to meet the need of current generation while preserving natural resources for future generation. The growing environmental and conservation issues in the country effect the important flora and fauna including with its affect on the human settlements. WWF-P in its initial stage was small organization but with the passage of time it extended its intervention throughout the country including Gilgit-Baltistan with special focus to involve the local communities for joint conservation and sustainable utilization of natural resources to ensure and strengthen the resources utilization with wise practice. |

The ragged mountains of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan compressed between north 37.0146˚ to23.607˚ Southwith sky high snow covered peaks of Karakuram, Hindukush and western Himalayas have diverse landscape features not only provide water for both irrigation and drinking purposes to the region but also rest of the country in the form of perennial streams, springs, rivers and fragile high altitude wetlands. Both the upstream and downstream catchments are also potential habitat for flora and fauna. The clay mixed water form high altitude alluvial traces and fans along the river bank is potential source for fertile soil to maximize agriculture and forest production of the homeland. Due to lake of understanding and awareness about the natural resources led to human practicing illegal harvesting, exploitation lead to depletion of values of resources. The increase in population also leads to growing infrastructure and over harvesting of rangeland minimize the pasture and rangelands form the high elevation mountains. |
