Introduction
Gilgit Conservation and Information Centre (GCIC) was established in 1999 with the financial assistance of Japanese Embassy through its Gross Roots Assistance Program. Its mission is to support Environmental NGOs and to assist communities in the pursuit of their respective project. |
Specific Objective:
The GCIC, very specifically aims at providing the conservation partners with desperately needed:- Infrastructure support for exchange of ideas and experiences;
- Technical support to manage natural resources, protected areas and fragile mountain
ecosystems;
- Information support to promote environmental awareness, ecotourism and informed
decision making;
- Research and training opportunities to develop knowledge and skill at the local level.

| WHAT WE HAVE?
GCIC basically being an educational resource centre has the following three major facilities:

Environmental Resource Centre (ERC) (GCIC has a well equipped environmental
resource centre, with over 2000 reference
books, reports, journals, brochures, maps
and newsletters, mainly on biodiversity,
conservation, natural resources of
Northern Areas, Development,
Communication and Environmental
Education etc.

Training & Education Unit (TEU) A well furnished training cum educational
hall, having latest multimedia facilities and
educational models constitutes the GCIC’s
TEU. We normally organize lectures,
presentations, trainings and awareness
sessions for the students of Karakuram
International University (KIU), peripheral
colleges and schools. Many of our
partners, particularly, line agencies use
the TEU facility to organize their training
workshops and other activities. Here, we
also have some stuffed animals and birds
placed for educational purposes.

Overnight Stay in Guest Rooms (GR)GCIC has two well furnished guest rooms
equipped with TV, VCR, and Cable
network, hot water shower, a fulltime
attendant, room service, library, Xerox
machine, 24 hours email access, privacy
and optimum security in a peaceful
environment at a considerably nominal
rate.
