Under the Green Office Initiative, Engro offices in Karachi organized a Queue on 22nd March, 2011 to celebrate the WORLD WATER DAY (WWD). This year's theme, Water for Cities: Responding to the Urban Challenge - is to make people aware of the alarming rate at which people, especially in developing countries, are moving to urban areas.
At the occasion, Mr. Wajid Junejo (focal person of the GOI) motivated the employees by expressing that this is the opportunity for all of us participate in the world’s largest voluntary campaign. He highlighted how some cities are growing the fastest; already have a shortage of fresh water, as the demand for it is outstripping supply. “An added problem is the lack of investment in infrastructure like water pipes and sewage systems, which if not addressed will lead to even bigger issues”.
He said that this is an effort to demand that the politicians keep their promises and step up their efforts to ensure water and sanitation for all people, everywhere as every 15 second a child dies of drinking dirty water. “All of us collectively hold the environment in trust for future generations and all of us must act as responsible guardians”.
