.Methodology

In order to achieve the objectives of this study, the following methodology was adopted:

- A meeting was conducted with the WWF, Gilgit staff for need assessment and identification of objectives regarding secondary data
- List of organizations and government departments to be contacted for secondary data was prepared with input from WWF staff and individual research
- Initial list of potential reports and papers was prepared but more was added to this list as the research went on
- WWF, Gilgit library and staff were contacted for relevant books, documents and reports before visiting other organizations
- Meetings and interviews were arranged with the concerned departments, organizations and communities, and numerous visits were made to relevant outside libraries to research their collection.
- Places outside Gilgit were also visited for collecting information, for example, the IUCN and AKRSP offices in Astore, and communication with out-of-town people was done via phone and/or e-mail.
- The Internet was also searched for relevant information and documents/papers.
- Data collection and sorting was carried out
- Initial report was written
- Findings were shared with all the stakeholders in a workshop
- Final report was written based on recommendations and input from the workshop, and submitted to WWF Pakistan, Gilgit office.
