WWF-Pakistan and ICIMOD orgnaises Training of Trainers workshop on climate smart mountain livelihood diversification options
Islamabad, WWF-Pakistan and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development(ICIMOD) organized a three-day training of trainers (ToT) workshop on climate smart mountain livelihoods in Islamabad. The workshop was held under component 2 of HIMALICA programme on action research and adaptive capacity building and focused on identifying climate smart livelihood diversification options and developing value chains to further help in generating financial resources for vulnerable households in rural community of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
Anu Joshi Shrestha, Value Chain and Enterprise Development Specialist, ICIMOD conducted the training, focusing on developing value chains for mountain communities with a special focus on enhancing the earning capacity of women in the region. Participants of the event included local community members, village and district coordinators from GB, already engaged in the implementation of HIMALICA Action Research project.
The workshop successfully concluded with the identification and selection of two main value chains; Dry fruits and Handicrafts, as potential livelihood diversifying option specifically for mountain communities of the region. Following this ToT, village level trainings are now expected to add onto the financial resource generation capacity of individual household thereby enabling them to adapt against climate change risk and natural calamities.
