WWF - Pakistan and Bank Alfalah Sign MoU to Promote Environmental Awareness and Nature Conservation

22 October, 2010

Lahore, 22nd October, 2010 – World Wide Fund for Nature - Pakistan (WWF - Pakistan) and Bank Alfalah have signed an MoU to jointly promote environmental awareness and nature conservation. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Mr. Ali Hasan Habib, Director General of WWF – Pakistan and Mr. Hamid Mahmood, Head of Marketing, Bank Alfalah.

WWF – Pakistan has been working for nature conservation and restoration of the natural resources of the country for the past 40 years and promotes corporate partnership to involve large and small business entities in Pakistan to maintain a healthy trend of Corporate Social Responsibility. The organization is also committed to initiating new and innovative ways in which corporations can give back to the environment and society they are working in.

Bank Alfalah has partnered with WWF – Pakistan in the past as an exclusive corporate member by supporting the widely popular travelling Nature Carnival held every year in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad to raise environmental awareness amongst children and young students. The Bank also uses WWF – Pakistan’s eco merchandize as part of its credit card rewards program.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr Ali Hasan Habib said, “this partnership takes us formally into a phase of creating mass awareness about environmental issues. It is heartening to see that corporate entities and banks are now actively pursuing a ‘green agenda’ that makes business environmentally friendly.” He further added that consumer choices directly affect and impact the environment. The trends consumers adopt in one region can go on to cause damage to another region in the country, and even the world. With more and more businesses becoming sensitized to these damages, the shift to environment friendly practices is gradual but necessary.

The collaboration between WWF – Pakistan and Bank Alfalah will be the first step towards a long lasting partnership that promotes a healthy culture of awareness of environmental issues at large and for bank employees as well. The funding provided by this partnership will go towards helping fund many projects of environmental significance.
