Policy Research

Research issues that WWF-P believes are both significant and within its capacity to address include trade, legislative frameworks, valuation of natural resources, project case studies, and root causes of biodiversity loss. For example, an investigation into the causes of biodiversity loss in Pakistan's mangrove eco-system looked at socio economic factors and established links between the causes of biodiversity loss at local, national and international levels. The aim of these initiatives is to provide national policy recommendations to the government. Trade issues have a significant impact on the environment, so WWF-P has initiated research work on the trade and environmental impacts of cotton production, the country's largest export commodity. The production of this commodity entails significant environmental degradation primarily due to the high use of pesticides on crops. The Division also co-ordinates institutional development matters and is responsible for project development and donor liaison. This entails coordinating project development from the concept stage to the completion of a proposal.
