Pakistan's Protected Areas network, comprising of 225 sites, faces major threats which have resulted in rapid deterioration of the natural resources. These threats include ineffective management, coupled with weak implementation of laws, high dependence by local communities on Protected Areas resources, lack of environmental awareness at all levels and limited financial resources.
WWF-P is ,therefore, attempting to set up a project to improve the ecological and biological status of four globally significant Protected Areas, by building the management capacity of major stakeholders, including local communities, increasing public awareness and minimising the negative impact of buffer zone communities.
