Mammal Species

Pakistan has a rich and varied mammalian fauna, affinitive to two of the faunal regions, namely Palearctic region west of the Indus and the Oriental region east of the Indus. Ten out of eighteen World‘s mammalian orders are represented in Pakistan including not only one of the smallest surviving mammals, the Mediterranean Pygmy Shrew But also occasionally, in the coastal waters the largest mammal ever known to exist Blue Whale.

A total of 167 mammal species are known to occur in Pakistan . It includes 43 rodents, 44 bats, 15 artiodactela , 1 perissodactyla , 33 carnivorea, 12 insectivora, 1 pholidota, 2 primates and 13 cetaceans.
