Indus Dolphin
Rescue Video Clip
Pakistan
has one the most extensive networks
of irrigation canals with the length
of 60,000 km that irrigate our lands.
Livelihoods of millions of Pakistanis
and our country's economy depend
on agriculture. When the gates between
mainstream of Indus River and canals
are opened, River water is diverted
towards field, dolphins sometimes
accidently swim into canals and
cannot return to the River themselves.
If these trapped dolphins are not
rescued they can die because water
level recedes in the dry season
from October to March.
The Indus Dolphin is a very sensitive
animal, skillful hands and comfortable
translocation technique are critical
in ensuring the success of a rescue
operation. This short video clip
demonstrates how the team of WWF
- Pakistan, Sindh Wildlife Department
and Lahore Zoo rescues trapped dolphins
and release them into the mainstream
of the River Indus.
Green Turtle
The
Green turtle is an endangered species
which WWF - Pakistan is trying to
conserve. Female green turtles come
to the Sandspit Beach in Karachi,
to nest, and meets various dangers.
This documentary details how the
Green turtle comes to the beach,
the egg laying process, and the
threats the hatchlings face: the
relationship between mother and
child, in this case turtle and egg,
is highlighted. The objective is
to make people realise their responsibility
towards the helpless young of this
turtle - and to bring out the kindness
that all of us have, as human beings,
and which dies as we grow up.
Mitti Da Bawa
This
thought-provoking musical video
is based on a popular Punjabi folk
number, which deplores Pakistan’s
environmental degradation and air
pollution, as seen through the eyes
of a sensitive photographer. This
photographer sets out from Lahore
and travels to the mountains in
the northern areas, only to find
out that insensitivity, irresponsibility,
selfishness and lack of awareness
are causing widespread environmental
degradation. Signifying the photographer’s
desires to reverse this widespread
pollution and environmental degradation
the video shows everything goisng
in reverse. In the end all viewers
are requested to become members
of WWF-Pakistan and protect the
environment.
