Syed Babar Ali Visits Wetland

WWF - P visited Wetland Centre,
Sandspit Karachi on 21st December,
2002. WWF - Pakistan board member
Al Lee was also present on the
occasion. Deputy Director General,
WWF - P Dr Ejaz Ahmad, briefed
him about different activities
performed at the Centre. Both
guests showed keen interest
in various exhibits displayed
at the Centre. While discussing
various socio economic activities,
Syed Babar Ali suggested that
the Wetland Centre should be
linked with different NGOs working
for social development.
He advised that focus should
be on activities aimed towards
economic uplift of the local
communities and stressed the
need for higher women participation
in the labor force. He offered
ten scholarships for the local
school children from primary
education to Masters Level.
Four community representatives
from the local village, Kakapir
were also present on the occasion
and discussed issues related
with potable water, health,
and education. The guests later
visited the turtle beach and
released turtle hatchlings in
the sea.
