WWF -
Pakistan’s Wetlands Project
The Pakistan Wetlands Project
proposal that was prepared on
behalf of the Federal Ministry
of Environment by WWF –
Pakistan, was approved and its
implementation will begin this
summer. It’s a $12 million,
seven year project and took
nearly two years to be secured.
The Pakistan
Wetlands Project aims to mainstream
wetland conservation in Pakistan
in the following ways.
Amplify current knowledge of
wetlands and their biodiversity
by thoroughly investigating
the spectrum of natural wetlands
in Pakistan and compiling essential
data in a comprehensive GIS
database.
Create and implement a National
Wetlands Conservation strategy.
Enhance the capacity of wetland
conservation staff at all levels
and in all sectors, and raise
public awareness of wetlands
and the need for conservation.
Develop sustainable wetland
conservation measures at each
of the four demonstration sites,
carefully selected to represent
conditions in four broad wetland
ecological regions.
