Summary
WWF - Pakistan and WWF International have both identified freshwater ecosystems as a top priority for conservation in the new millennium and have pledged to conserve species of special concern, including those which are endangered, threatened and nationally important.
The endangered Indus dolphin falls into all of these categories. As a species endemic to Pakistan, it is Pakistan's responsibility to take the necessary measures to ensure that this unique species is protected
This conservation project is designed to be a component of a larger regional initiative, led by WWF Pakistan, to conserve river dolphins and freshwater ecosystems.

Objective

    • Monitor dolphin populations to detect trends in abundance.
    • Protect dolphin habitats and work towards improvement of habitat quality.
    • Collect information on dolphin ecology to assist in the formulation of conservation measures.
