National Forest Valuation Guidelines
Project Introduction:
World Wide Fund for Nature – Pakistan (WWF – P) is undertaking a study titled ‘Development of Methodology for Valuation of Forest Products and Services’ which is jointly administered by the Ministry of Environment, Government of Pakistan and the National Forest Programme (NFP) Facility, funded by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The project will develop a single set of guidelines for future valuation studies to be conducted in the Pakistan forestry sector. Economic valuation is concerned with the assigning of monetary values to environment assets in order to justify investing for their conservation.

National Consultative Workshop:
The National Consultative Workshop will be held by end 2009. This will be an opportunity for environment economists with valuation experience as well as development practitioners to participate in finalizing national guidelines on valuation of forest products and services. In this regard, your comments on the drafts posted to date (listed above) are a valuable input to the consultation process.
Further updates and content will be posted periodically on this page.
We wish to thank the Ministry of Environment and the NFP Facility for providing financial and technical support for the project. The project will benefit from a peer review of the final draft. The process of developing guidelines also benefits from the Technical Support Group which includes members from the forest departments of the Balochistan, NWFP and Sindh Governments, from among those invited, to date.
