Over 65% of Pakistan’s population is under the age of 30, a demographic reality that intersects with the country’s escalating environmental challenges, including air pollution, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss. WWF-Pakistan is now turning to youth as a driving force for climate action through a new initiative focused on green entrepreneurship and community-led solutions.
The newly launched Nature Clubs for Youth (NC4Y) programme, supported by the Avery Dennison Foundation, aims to equip young Pakistanis with the skills, mentorship, and funding needed to develop practical solutions to environmental challenges affecting their communities.
Piloted across 15 educational institutions in Taunsa, Skardu, Gilgit, Hyderabad, and Nathiagali, the initiative will engage around 1,000 participants aged 15 to 22. Through hands-on workshops such as Eco Leaders of Tomorrow and Green Entrepreneurship Skills, students will be trained in project design, leadership, and sustainable business practices. At least 5 youth-led projects will receive mentorship and seed funding, enabling participants to transform ideas into scalable solutions addressing issues such as waste mismanagement, water conservation, and ecosystem restoration.
“At WWF-Pakistan, we see young people not just as future leaders, but as changemakers today,” said Taseer Ali Mirza, Head of Corporate Engagement and Environmental Education. “This initiative is about turning awareness into action, giving youth the tools and opportunities to build solutions that are both environmentally sustainable and economically viable.”
The initiative connects climate action with innovation, giving youth hands-on experience in building sustainable ventures. It will conclude with a national showcase in 2026, where select projects will be presented to experts and investors. Through this initiative, WWF-Pakistan reinforces its commitment to empowering youth as frontline responders to Pakistan’s environmental challenges, transforming local ideas into solutions with the potential for national impact.
