Overview

WWF-Pakistan has launched an interactive Plantation and Carbon Sequestration Dashboard, a geospatial platform designed to showcase the organization’s efforts in restoring degraded landscapes and combating climate change through large-scale plantation initiatives. The dashboard provides an intuitive interface for exploring WWF’s plantation data, emphasizing both ecological and climatic benefits across regions and practices.

As of October 2025, WWF-Pakistan has planted over 10.4 million trees, contributing to an estimated 231,800 metric tons of carbon sequestration. This represents a significant step toward offsetting carbon emissions and enhancing the country’s natural carbon sinks. The dashboard visualizes this impact through an interactive map and dynamic charts, helping users analyze where, how, and under which initiatives of WWF’s plantation work has been implemented. The spatial data is continuously updated, providing a transparent and evidence-based overview of WWF’s progress toward national and global environmental goals.

Key Features

  • Interactive Map: Displays plantation sites across Pakistan, highlighting regions with high deforestation, salinity, or habitat degradation.

  • Provincial Insights: Breaks down plantation efforts by province, showing WWF’s nationwide reach and alignment with regional ecological priorities.

  • Practice-Based Analysis: Compares plantations across WWF thematic practices such as Oceans, Food & Agriculture, Forests, Freshwater, and Community Engagement.

  • Carbon Sequestration Metre: Quantifies the carbon absorbed by plantations, demonstrating WWF’s contribution to climate action and SDG 13.

Purpose and Impact

The dashboard serves as both a decision-support tool and a public engagement platform. It enables policymakers, researchers, and partners to assess WWF’s conservation efforts accurately, while also highlighting how nature-based solutions, afforestation, mangrove restoration, and community-driven projects, help mitigate climate change, protect biodiversity, and support sustainable livelihoods.

Through this platform, WWF-Pakistan showcases its commitment to restoring ecosystems, enhancing green cover, and reducing the nation’s carbon footprint, combining technology, data, and community action to build a sustainable, climate-resilient future for Pakistan.
