About the ESG training programme

This Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) training programme, jointly organised by WWF-Pakistan and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) with technical support from Spectreco, aims to prepare businesses in Pakistan for the country’s evolving ESG regulatory landscape.

With the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) introducing its ESG Regulatory Roadmap, 2023 ESG Disclosure Guidelines, and phased adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Sustainability Disclosure Standards from July 2025, compliance has become essential for managing environmental and social risks, attracting investment, and staying competitive. This training will equip professionals with the tools to meet these requirements and lead sustainable business practices.

Objectives

The training supports advocacy and capacity building for ESG leadership in Pakistan as envisioned by the SECP as part of ESG Roadmap. It aims to:

  • Enhance ESG awareness and align companies with investor and regulatory expectations

  • Strengthen disclosure readiness under IFRS S1 and S2

  • Equip participants with tools to implement E&S risk management aligned with IFC Performance Standards (IFC PS) and global frameworks

 

Learning Outcomes

Participants will gain practical knowledge on:

  • Understanding SECP’s ESG Roadmap and Disclosure Guidelines (2023)

  • Familiarity with IFC PS and other global ESG frameworks

  • Interpreting and applying IFRS S1 and S2 in the Pakistani context

  • Developing ESG-aligned governance, policy, and reporting structures

  • Collecting and reporting ESG data and KPIs

  • Assessing climate-related risks and disclosures

  • Establishing internal ESG teams and integrating ESG into business operations

  • Module 1: Global ESG Evolution, Taxonomies and Financial Implications - GRI, IFC PS, UN SDGs, IFRS, ISO 14001, ESRM

  • Module 2: ESG in Pakistan: SECP ESG Roadmap, IFRS (S1/S2), SBP Green Banking Guidelines, Green Taxonomy – Impact on Business and Financial Strategies

  • Module 3: Understanding Components of ESG Strategy & Risks, Key ESG Metrics based on IFRS S1/S2

  • Module 4: Data Management and GHG Accounting, based on IFRS S1/S2

  • Module 5: Sector-Specific ESG Strategy, Risk Management, ESG Metrics (IFRS S1/S2) 

  • Module 6: Sector Specific Compliance, Reporting & Disclosures (IFRS S1/S2, ESRM)
